My husband bought me a dolls house kit for my 40th birthday and after many months of construction my Holme Lodge was finally finished. I spent many hours finishing my dolls house to a high specification but I couldn't find any dolls that weren't either mass produced or incredibly expensive and difficult to find. That's when I had the bright idea to make my own. I have always been crafty and as I had done dressmaking at school and I thought how hard could this be. But making things so small posed a whole new set of challenges. The first two dolls looked better than any I could find (or afford). I was now hooked on making my miniature people. I started by buying undressed dolls and over the years have progressed to making the whole doll from start to finish. All of my dolls are entirely hand made from pouring and firing the porcelain, painting their tiny faces and finally making their tiny outfits. I try to make them as historically correct as possible and use mostly silks and cotton fabrics.
